Dr. Alex O’Neill, GCAPS Research Scientist

Dr. Alex O’Neill joins GCAPS in the quest to braid enhanced tire testing, modeling, and simulation tools to make tire development capable of finding the best solutions in less time at a reasonable budget.

O’Neill will lead the strategic market expansion and client engagement efforts across the domains served by GCAPS. He will also be highly engaged in technical project management and provide his expertise to support our growth.

O’Neill graduated with a master’s degree in astrophysics and had a short career in banking and teaching before taking on a Ph.D. in engineering. That Ph.D. involved a joint project between Jaguar Land Rover and the University of Surrey developing a methodology to translate tire forces from sandpaper to asphalt. The work was very well received, winning multiple awards internationally—including TireTech’s Young Scientist of the Year—and a Royal Fellowship. Since completing the Ph.D., O’Neill has been the Product Manager for Siemens Simcenter Tire, overseeing the development of the MF-Tool and MF-Tyre/MF-Swift software. In addition to being a key contact for customers and guiding the product roadmap, he has co-authored several tire modeling-related papers. He has also been the linchpin for the development of the new Siemens wet tire model extension—a partnership between Siemens, GCAPS, and General Motors.

GCAPS has a lot of pride in adding elite talent to our team, and we are thrilled to add another. Dr. Alex O’Neill is now in full collaboration with GCAPS.
